If your upper eyelids feel heavy or look droopy, the solution might be simpler than you think. Upper blepharoplasty is a quick in-office procedure that removes excess skin to create a more open, refreshed appearance. It’s one of the most common surgeries we perform at Synergy.
The procedure is done right here in the clinic using local anesthetic and takes less than an hour.
Here’s what to expect — from the time it takes, to recovery, to the cost.

What is upper blepharoplasty?
Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin – and sometimes a small amount of muscle or fat – from the upper eyelids. It’s often chosen by people who feel their eyelids make them look tired or older than they feel. In some cases, the skin can even start to interfere with vision.
The result is a more alert, rested appearance, while still looking like you.
How long does the procedure take?
Upper blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anesthetic right here in the clinic. The procedure takes less than an hour, and you’ll go home the same day. If you’re combining it with another procedure, like a brow lift, the total time may be longer.
What is recovery like?
Recovery from upper eyelid surgery is generally straightforward:
First few days: You may experience some swelling, bruising, and tightness. Cold compresses and head elevation can help reduce this.
Day 5–7: Stitches are removed in the clinic. Many people feel ready to return to desk work or low-impact activity at this point.
By 2 weeks: Bruising has usually faded, and you’ll likely feel comfortable resuming most social activities.
After 1 month: You’ll see your final results take shape as any lingering swelling subsides.
We’ll provide full aftercare instructions, and you’ll have direct access to our team throughout your recovery.
Will there be visible scars?
The incision is placed in the natural crease of your eyelid, so once healed, the scar is usually barely noticeable. Dr. Barnsley uses meticulous techniques to keep scarring to a minimum.
What does upper blepharoplasty cost?
The procedure costs approximately $4,500 plus tax as of June 2025.
Is it worth it?
Many patients tell us they not only look more refreshed after surgery — they feel it, too. It’s a relatively small procedure with a big impact, especially if your eyelids have been bothering you for a while.
