Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job,” is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves reshaping the nose to improve its appearance. It is a common cosmetic surgery that can make significant changes to the size, shape, and proportion of the nose.

Common aesthetic concerns that rhinoplasty can address include:

  • a hump on the bridge of the nose,
  • a drooping or enlarged tip,
  • uneven nostrils.

It is recommended to wait until the nose is fully developed, typically around age 16 for girls and 17 for boys.

During your consultation with Dr. Barnsley, he will explain different procedure options and will determine the most appropriate technique for your particular case.

Questions & Answers

What is the recovery time for rhinoplasty?

Recovery time for rhinoplasty can vary from patient to patient, but most people can return to work or school within 1-2 weeks after surgery. However, it can take up to a year for the nose to fully heal and for the final results of the surgery to become visible.

Will rhinoplasty hurt?

During the procedure, you will be under general anesthesia and will not feel any pain. However, after the surgery, you may experience some pain, swelling, and bruising in the nose and surrounding areas. You will be prescribed pain medication to help manage any discomfort.

Will there be scars after rhinoplasty?

Most rhinoplasty procedures are performed using incisions that are hidden inside the nose, which means there is no visible scarring. In some cases, an incision may be made in the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils), but this incision is usually small and well-concealed.

How long does the swelling last after rhinoplasty?

Swelling after rhinoplasty can last for several weeks or even months, depending on the extent of the surgery. Most of the swelling will subside within the first few weeks after the procedure, but some residual swelling may persist for several months.

Can I wear glasses after rhinoplasty?

You should avoid wearing glasses or anything that puts pressure on the bridge of your nose for at least 4-6 weeks after rhinoplasty. If you need to wear glasses during this time, Dr. Barnsley may recommend using tape or a special splint to hold them in place.

Are the results of rhinoplasty permanent?

The results of rhinoplasty are typically permanent, but it may take several months for the final results to become visible. It is important to follow post-operative instructions carefully and to avoid any trauma to the nose to ensure the best possible outcome.

Non-Surgical Options

Dermal Fillers

A non-surgical nose job, also known as a non-surgical rhinoplasty or liquid rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that involves reshaping and enhancing the appearance of the nose using injectable fillers.
